Top Ten Five Books I Have Read Recently That Were Outside My Comfort Zone & Enjoyed
Soooo I couldn’t come up with 10 unless I was going to go back years and years, so instead I decided to do 5 out of my comfort zone I did like and 5 in I didn’t.
1. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I don’t generally read books like this, but wow was I surprised by how much I liked it.
2. Ashes of Life by Erica Lucke Dean. I don’t normally read adult books with such a, well, boring premise. Pleasantly surprised.
3. Losing You by Nicci French. I don’t do crime that often but this one had me hooked.
4. The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. This book is both in and out of my comfort zone. I cant go into it because of spoilers but I loved it.
5. The Dogs by Allan Stratton. low expectations were deflated.
Top Five Books In My Comfort Zone I Didn’t Like
1. Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headly. This is something I should have enjoyed so much, but just didn’t.
2. Half Bad by Sally Green. So much potential. I didn’t like this book at all really.
3. Midnight Embrace by Amanda Ashley. A genre, topic, and author I love. I hated this book.
4. His Dark Materials Series by Philip Pullman. While the first book was enjoyable, the rest of the series just went downhill very quickly.
5. Everything I Never Told you by Celeste Ng. While not completely in my comfort zone I had heard so many good things I was sure I was going to enjoy it. Nope.

Till Next Time…
I like how you split this up! Everything I Never Told You had so much potential, but fell so flat for me. All of the characters were just insufferable and un-redeeming (to me!).
My alternate title for that book was “How to be a disgusting person and a bad parent 101.”
YES EXACTLY! Omg it still fills me with rage when I think about it…
I can completely agree with both Magonia and Everything I Never Told You and Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda was one of my favorite reads last year!
I really didn’t get on with Everything I Never Told You. I should have liked it, but I really didn’t. I’m worried that the same thing will happen with Magonia…
I know! I was so looking forward to both of them, but then I was let down. Magonia wasn’t as bad because I had heard you either like it or you don’t.
I am, shall we say, apprehensive of reading Half-bad. The concept sounds amazing, but I have heard mostly negative things. Yet I am still so darned intrigued that I am really tempted to read it anyways. Borrowing it from the library of course, just in case I do hate it as well.

I liked the second book, which I got only because the publishers sent it to me for review, more than the first. It was still annoying at times, but I plan on reading the last book despite how much I didn’t like the first. Perhaps wait until you hear some reviews on the third, otherwise I don’t think its worth bothering with.
I so agree with you on His Dark Materials. I liked the first one, was vastly disappointed in the second, and found only slight redemption in the third.
Love the way you split up your list too. :) My list
Liked your twist on the list with the inclusion of the five books in your comfort zone that you didn’t like. Wish I had thought of that as an alternative topic for this week!
