So I don’t know if I consider this a dud thing or not. I read a few books and I participated in most challenges. I didn’t do all my goals though, I barely had time to read and do challenges let alone commenting to people so that fell flat. I hope I will have more time next time this challenge comes around. Yesterday was a total dud though. I didn’t do any barely reading and I didn’t do the challenge. I accidentally, and I really do mean accidentally, got drunk. One minute I was perfectly fine spacing out my drinks so they barely phased me at all then WHAM they all hit me at once hours later. I didn’t stick with my reading goals all that closely either because I think its better just to do what grabs you in a challenge.

And now onto the final challenge for this read-a-thon! Because of how the times work for me the challenge is still happening while the weeks has actually ended.

5 Book Challenge

It is 11:00 PM on a Sunday night. You are laying in bed thinking about all of the things you must do the next day. Tasks of the coming days consume your thoughts and while your mind is somewhere else you are caught off guard by a flash in the sky that is followed by a large wailing screech that pierces the air and shatters your bedroom window. Slowly you move to the window and what you see catches your breathe and causes you to stumble back a few steps. The aliens (at least you think they are aliens) have began to enter the city and destroy everything that is in their path. Through the window your view is consumed with destruction, screaming people and large flames that are dancing across the city at a fast pace. You notice that the creatures are heading in your direction and you realize you probably have about fifteen minutes before they reach your home. That means you have only about ten minutes to gather your belongings and escape before you are caught in the attack from the aliens invading the city.

Given the short amount of time you are only able to take 5 books with you. What books would you pick to take with you as you escape and prepare for the end of the world. Would you choose books that would help you survive in the post-apocalyptic world ,books for pleasure that would make you happy and take you to a fantasy reality or books that you can’t live without?

For more info check out the host blog.

Its scenarios raised here where I really wish I had some ‘how to survive in the wild’ kind of books upon my shelf. Will my Man vs Wild memories and my books be enough?!

The books I choose are:

1. On The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. This I picked because I would not be able to live without it.

2. The Host by Stephanie Meyer. Its got aliens taking over the world. Surely I can learn something? Its being great is a plus though.

3. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I used to read it at least once a year until my copy died. It also has the added bonus of being a reminder of my mother. (I assume since both my parents are useless they die in the early advances of this invasion so I need memento of each of them).

4. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Because it will remind me that words are beautiful, not just the story they tell.

5.I really really really wanted to give this to The Hobbit or something in honour of my dad, but it doesn’t satisfy my fantasy needs completely so I am giving this spot to The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings. My dad introduced me to this author though so I still have memories here.

I have only included books I own on my shelves right now. When I get other books on my shelves rather than my kindle this list would change a bit.

Well I am quite pleased with what I accomplished during this week. I read double what I thought I would be able to read. Audio books seems to work when I am busy. I liked most these books quite a lot but I will be taking a break from them because I just can’t handle doing anymore in a row.

I don’t think I will participating in the next months topic, and maybe the one after that, so don’t expect anything from me for this then.

Retitle Your Current Read Challenge

For this, your final mini-challenge of the readathon, I thought it would be fun if we all tried to come up with a new title for our current read, or really anything we’ve read during this Bout of Books 10.0.  For me, a great title can really go a long way toward making me want to read a book and I thought it would be fun to play with that concept a little bit.  Your new title can be something you ACTUALLY think would make a good title, or just something descriptive or something funny!  It’s totally up to you!

“Only One Girl All Men Are Allowed To Love and Lust”

Seriously though, literally nearly every single male character wants this one female character Sofia. I want her to die so I can stop hearing how awesome she is.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon – Hour 6

I am back with a little update for you all and a little challenge for this hour. I have read about 130ish pages of my second book (I should really be sleeping right now, my brain is sleepy), but I will soldier on even if I do seem to be reading kind of slowly for myself. I will have this book done by the end of the 24 hours (hopefully)!

Now the challenge which is being held over at Lisa’s World of Books so go check out the challenge page if you want to see some other peoples answers, you may find some new books to read! Also check it out if you want the full list of questions, I didn’t answer all of them here because I couldn’t/didn’t want to. Here it is:

The challenge for the hour is to share some of your best from your reading year and why.  The idea is to pick at least 3 of the categories below and share your favorites and why

Best Book of Your Reading Year

Easy one for me. Everyone should read this book. On The Jellicoe Road hands down. The characters aree beautiful and the story is sad and even though you wouldnt want much part of their life, I for one wish I was there with them because I love them so.

Best Romance Book of Your Reading Year

This is fun because I just finished reading it! The Daughter of the Forest. It was written differently that most romance books I have read, and in the end it gave me everything I wanted when it looked like it was going to leave me wanting.

Best YA Book of Your Reading Year

I feel like I am going to be following along with other peoples answers here but it has to be Divergent. I loved the characters and I love a good dystopian.

Best New Adult Book of Your Reading Year

I think this is a new adult book so I will give it to Where You’ll Find Me. Despite one huge flaw, I thought the story was nice an realistic and left me feeling pretty good about picking it up.

Best Fantasy Book of Your Reading Year

Ooo a harder one.I shall give it to The Forgotten War. If you want a book that paints imagery, is epic in length, and has kick butt female characters its for you.

Best Children’s Book of Your Reading Year

A House Without Mirrors. Its rather creepy for children of this day and age with all their overly sweet rubbish, but I loved it!

Best Main Character of Your Reading Year

Im going to Ceriana from The Forgotten War because of the stuff that happens to her. Her story made want to paint for hours it had such awesome imagery! Or anyone from On The Jellicoe Road. Really you could just put that book in for most of my answers.

Best Author of Your Reading Year

Though I have only read one of his books and it wasn’t one of my 5 star rated books, I can totally see how all his books are going to at least be that awesome and bring me emotion of some sort, be it sadness or joy. John Green.

Best Supporting Character of Your Reading Year

Im going to be a bit odd and say Church the cat from City of Bones. I just love that bit of random that is this cat thrown into the story.

Best Cover of Your Reading Year

9780141333663Though it wasnt one of my favourite books, I still thought the cover was stunning I’m still angry they changed them to the ugly things they have now. Across the Universe.

Best Story Line of Your Reading Year

I will give this to The Returned because it was about people coming back from the dead, just as they were right before they died, but they were not zombies! God I hate zombies.

There you go. I hope you enjoyed my answers thought they are brief, and I hope you found some new books!

Manga Review – Vampire Knight (6-10)

Title: Vampire Knight [Vampire knight Volumes 6-10]

Author: Matsuri Hino

Genre: Supernatural, Manga, Romance, Action

Length: 947 (Aprox. total)

Rating: 5 Star

Manga Series Reviews: 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-

Anime Series Reviews: 1, 2

Yuki sneaks into an exclusive vampire party and sees Aido’s parents introducing their daughter to Kaname. They, like many other Night Class parents, desire an alliance with the pureblood. Kaname is the most eligible bachelor in the vampire society–but will he choose Yuki?

Welcome back to another VK review. I really hope if you have picked up the series since my last review that you are really enjoying. I love to discuss these things with people!

To catch up poor Zero turns into a vampire, and then we go onto a journey with him to destroy the pure blood vampire killed his family. To make things worst though Zero’s twin brother pops up and is on the same side as that pure blood. Kaname ends up killing this woman and Zero misses his chance to drink her blood to stop going crazy and becoming a level E vampire. Zero’s brother Ichiru ends up escaping and damn it Zero, why didn’t you bloody kiss Yuki! Way to tease us all… Up to speed? Don’t worry, the beginning of every volume has a sum up of what happened in the one before!

Now onto the kind of breakdown of each volume:

  1. In volume six we finally start to get a glimpse that Yuki is more important than what she has been in the story up until now. Yuki starts seeing blood everywhere because of the past she can no longer remember and every time she tries to find a way to discover what happened something always happens so that she can’t figure anything out. We also get more of an understanding of Kaname. The end of the volume ends on a huge cliff hanger. Suggest having the next volume on hand.
  2. Cliff hangers!!! In volume seven Zero has officially stopped taking up all the spotlight and the main focus is now upon Yuki and the mystery of her past and just how Kaname is involved in all of that. Yuki is really starting to go mad because of it. Kaname confesses his feelings for Yuki and his personality starts to become really dark.
  3. In volume eight I just generally feel sorry for pretty much everyone in the story. I feel sorry for Kaname because you can just feel the loneliness seeping from his body because all his family was murdered, and you feel sorry for Yuki for loosing Zero and vice versa. You can feel the show down between everyone about to happen.
  4. This volume, volume nine, is pretty much non stop action. Everyone is fighting everyone and when all the fighting is done and this chunks bad guy is done and gone kaname makes comments about how this is only the beginning to the bad things that are to come. The volume ends on a Yuki and Zero cliff hanger.
  5. This is just things winding down (despite the cliff hanger it starts on) and you get a lot of back story from this volume. This lets you know a lot of the characters better than you did up until this point.

Now those of you that don’t want spoilers I suggest you just skip all this part. Its hard to make these review really interesting when I have to skip over so much of it for fear of ruining the entire story for you all. So if you don’t want spoilers bye! I shall see you guys in my next review!

Ok now everyone who stayed here is what happens over all of the volumes. We are introduced to our new bad guy, Lord Rido which is Kaname’s uncle, and he is Shiki’s father and he takes control of Shiki’s body. We find out that Kaname is actually the Kuran pure blood ancestor from which all the Kuran’s descend and Rido was the one to awake him using the ‘real’ Kaname, Kaname’s parents new born baby boy, as a sacrifice, thus making it so Kaname cannot kill him no matter how much he tries. I know its not Kaname’s fault really that this happened, but this made me so sad. I was also kind of touched though that Kaname’s parents chose to raise him as their own anyway.

Yuki’s madness becomes to much to her and she tried to strangle Zero (so so sad) so Kaname takes her and ‘awakens’ her and bites her and turns her into the pure blood vampire that she has actually always been. We find out that she is actually Kanames sister and they are engaged since pure bloods marry each other to keep the lines clean. When their parents died because of Rido her mother sacrificed herself to turn Yuki into a human to hide her. Oh. My. God. I didn’t see the sibling thing coming at all! At first I was totally iffy about the whole thing but I love Kaname too much to think they cannot be together. Zero tried to kill Kaname cause he turned Yuki but she stops him.

Zero then gets arrested by the Hunters Association and while he is in a cell he gets visited by Ichiru who joined the school to be close to Rido, and when Kaname restores Rido’s body so that he will leave Shiki’s, Ichiru tries to kill him for the woman who killed zero’s parents. When he sees Zero he shoots him with a vampire gun, we then find out that Ichiru was hurt fighting Rido and that he wants Zero to drain him of blood so that they can become the single person they were supposed to be. Zero due to his injuries and since Ichiru was dying anyway does this, and becomes the strongest vampire hunter ever. My heart just wept for Zero at that moment.

Kaname goes off to kill the vampire elder council, and Yuki and Zero team up and kill Rido. Once that is done they go to face off with each other but Kaname comes in and tries to kill Zero but Yuki stops them both, frees Zero from his Bloody Rose gun and Kaname leaves. Yuki and Zero embrace, he bites her, and then they kiss. FINALLY!!! Zero tells her he will have to kill her the next time they see each other and Yuki promises to run away from him forever so that by being his enemy she can be his reason for living, but when they part Yuki breaks down about the choice because she doesn’t want to be enemies. God damn it Zero, why do you have to be such a dick. Yes its the love triangle to end all love triangles you are in but really? You know Yuki isn’t evil and going to kill people so you are pretty much saying you are going to kill her for being herself which is the person you love!

The series of events ends with Kaname and Yuki leaving the school together. God. I don’t know how I will live. We basically get told that this is just the tip of the ice burg and look at all the emotion fill drama we had to go through. I really don’t know how much more I can take. God this story is good.  Pick it up! Madman sell it and they often have sales where you can get it for cheap.

Till Next Time…
