When Emilia suddenly appears again on the island, Derek is both terrified and intrigued. But this time, he is determined to involve Sofia and discover who this woman is.

If only Derek and Sofia knew, Emilia is a mystery that should be left undiscovered…

Review – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

I read on because I just want to know how all this rubbish will be resolved. The books really are all bleeding into each other.

I made a jump for joy when the new stupid love triangle ended. I hated the first one, but I hated this one more. At one point Derek was all like You are being an absolute fool when he was with Emilia and all I could think is yes, yes you are. Forever and always a fool.

I had my suspicions that was actually in fact Cora from before Derek went to sleep ever since she first showed her now apparently Derek approved face. I hated this. Just… gah.. So much hatred. I LIKED Cora. Why oh why Forrest did you have to go and destroy such a good character by turning her into this poisonous bloody member in the love triangle. Two crimes to the series were done in this single act.

I had issues with the whole culling thing. For ages they make the culling sound like it happened years and years ago, but then I encountered a section that made it sound like it was within the last few years and this greatly confused me. If it happened so recently why on earth did they choose to do the first culling? The timeline for the culling has gotten confused and I cannot make sense of it. Important history things like this need to stay fixed and well planned and thought out and I didn’t think this was.

So Ingrid died in this one. I don’t believe it though. Her death seemed really quick and just from stupidity, so I have feelings that they might bring her back somehow. But she may not, I could be wrong. So in the book they think they have the cure idea down and decided to test the theory out on Ingrid because if they are wrong it means she dies! Except, despite all the hints that any cure must be done with immune blood like Sofia’s they decided to test with normal bloody human blood so of course she dies.

They get it right with Derek though of course. I also think this was a really silly thing for them to do, turn Derek human. Yes, at the end of the series it would make the most sense cause then they could be together. Right now though they have impending doom coming at them from all sides and they really could use kingly vampire strength and power but instead its decided that Derek should become human and go on a little trip for three months with Sofia and they just leave everyone high and dry. Sooooo annoying. Derek is supposed to love his sister, this is pretty much leaving her to the wolves and everyone with the risk of getting blown up/confined. The idea is put out there by the first big bad vampire guy that Derek is supposed to be stronger as a human but I don’t see that at all.

I know all this seems really negative. I think its just gone on a little too long for me. I did like bits from memory, but by the time I got to the end of the book I didn’t remember what they were. I know I like Kyle and find Anna and his story really cute though. I hope they end up together.

I think this series ends in like two books. I wish it was the next. I want answers and I don’t know how much more of this I can tolerate.

Review – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

I am finding it harder and harder to think of things to say for these books cause they all feel kind of the same and bleed into one another.

In this book we get to know a bit more about Sofia’s mother Cam. We get some back story into what she was like when she was younger and I have to say I found that whole section to be really cute and adorable. Reading these back stories really made me wonder how everyone got so bitter. In Cam’s case it was simply having a child. Cam has some background that she was raped by her stepfather or something and so she didn’t want kids, then she has Sofia and became major jealous of how much Aiden and her got along. I think this back story of the rape(s) was a bit pointless. Didn’t need to be there and it was just trying to give her character more depth and it failed.

There was also a major writing slip in this back story of Cam and Aiden before Cam left them. At one point Cam thinks while listening to him on the phone:

Aiden has gone mad. He’s Absolutely Insane. How could anybody on their right mind believe in vampires?

BUT at no point in this back story has the word ‘vampire’ been said before. That was the first time. I would like to know where she got the idea that he believed in vampires, because it sure wasn’t in the story.

Viv came back in this book and I am so happy about that. I think she is my favourite character in this series, and it was killing me to think she was dead. She gets tortured and has her fangs ripped out though. I felt so sorry for her and it made me question if they would grow back, but I don’t think so. Its never mentioned again, but I think something like this should have been answered in the book. Its a good thing Viv never drinks from a living sauce.

I found Derek pretty dumb in this book. While Sofia is away his entire world just falls apart and really it shouldn’t of. He controlled it once, he should be able to control it again without a girl that really hasn’t done all that much yet. He also kept swearing that things would never happen again, then sure enough, it would happen again.

Some of the dialogue in this book was just so cliche I cringed a little, but there were some funny moments in it too. I got relly sick of people mentioning a cure, and things got over described. Some plot development happens but its mostly just people talking about things. Yet another vampire fell in love with Sofia.

So, I read on because why not. I want to see how this all wraps up. I keep my fingers crossed for one thta gets a higher rating than a three star but I am not really holding my breathe on that.

Review – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Like this one more than the last.

Things actually happened in this one plot wise so that was nice. We got a lot of fighting and a few hearts got ripped out. That was cool. And here is a spoiler – Ben died. I was pretty happy about that, I didn’t care about him all that much. It really confused me when he became friends with Claudia though, I don’t think that would have ever happened. Even though he got over revenge I can’t see his character being that mature as to work with someone who tortured him for weeks – end spoiler.

We saw quite a bit of the vampire hunter place which was nice. I thought Derek became really bloody stupid. The lack of Viv in this book was depressing enough but then Derek went and ditched Sofia even after all the sacrifices that she made for them to be back together.

Sofia actually starts to become useful and starts to fix things at the shade for the humans a little which was nice. I can’t stand people who are useless the entire time. She also gets tortured a little which I also liked because I don’t really like Sofia yet. Im also just going to say that her relationship with her mother is just sick. The way her mum feels about her, I mean wow. I know some mother act that way in movies but do they actually do this in real life? I don’t know but I could really feel the hatred.

Throughout the entire book there were references to Sofia’s love and life being like a sand castle, something that wont last. It was a nice touch the first couple of times. It kept on happening though. Something that was nice to start with ended up making physically angry by the end because of how many times it was mentioned. Be prepared for annoyance if you read this book.

I am glad that Ashley has become more of a figure in the books, I think she adds laughter when no one else is funny at all. One such moment:

Sofia frowned as my eyes bore into hers. She knew–like she always did when it came to me–that what I was saying wasn’t to be taken lightly. Her grip enveloped mine.
“It’s like they’re communicating through Bluetooth or something…” Ashley muttered under her breath.

I would recommend this book to someone who has started reading the series already. If you felt the same way about the first book then I think you would enjoy this one well enough. It does seem to be getting better from now on. I shall continue on.

Review – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Nothing all that much happened in this book, it just seemed like a bunch of set up for things that were to come in the next few books.

Ben instantly got on my nerves in this book. He found something out about Derek that Sofia wasn’t going to like, and for pages we were dealing with him going on and on about how he couldn’t tell her and then in the first conversation they had he told her. In my kindle I made a note of you gave that up quick didn’t you. His name for Sofia got on my nerves and I HATED the fact that they got together. It was just stupid. Stupid love triangle trying to go one way when we know that our girl has no feelings for the other guy in that way. It was just so forced. Ben kept getting mad about it but even he knows she doesn’t feel that way about him yet he tries and tries anyway… Then he moves on and hits on another girl pretty much straight after Sofia came to her senses. Gah.

Everyone in this book wants everyone. Specially Sofia. I really don’t see what is so great about her. I have a horrible feeling this is a trend that will continue on through the series… And I mean everyone wants her. EVERYONE. She is really quite dumb in this book, and I think Derek needs a good slap. I wouldn’t want them with anyone else however.

Most of the characters are a bit of a bore but in the last few chapters things picked up and I wanted to get more out of the story. We get introduced to the hunters which I found really interesting. It was cool to see how they function. We also got to meet Sofia’s parents for the first time and I really wanted to know more about them but of course we didn’t get them until the very end of the book. Their identities were suppose to be a big shock but I guessed them both before they revealed who they were.

Sorry this seemed to mostly a review to bash Ben, but yeah. This book was a great big set up for things to come. This book really frustrated me, but there was enough in it that I will continue to read the series so I can see where a few things go or get resolved.

Review – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

I received this book in exchanged for my honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Vampire books have been done and done and done to death because of Twilight, and so really there isn’t much left to the genre. However I thought this book had a good new kind of twist to it.

The idea of them having a secret island of vampires and their slaves was pretty damn interesting, but when the idea that the highest ranking of them live in huge mansions in the trees that are all connected with glass walkways. Awesome.

There were a few things that annoyed me however. At one point our main character Sofia calls a vampire Pitchy in her head because of the sound of his voice and the lack of a name. But then later on in the story someone else calls him Pitchy also without Sofia having told them her nickname. His name would not have been Pitchy in real life, everyone else has normal names.

I liked the characters, I found them nice enough and I enjoyed it when they got close to each other and shared moments, but when bad things happened it didn’t really bother me that they were going through it. For the most part their dialogue was pretty good but there were moments when it bothered me. The love between them happened fast, but not so fast I wanted to rip my eyes out. Sofia was a bit too why me but thats her character. I thought Derek was a hunk but also why me but he was asleep most of his vamp life to he can kind of get away with it because he is not used to it fully yet. I look forward to more of him and his family so I can work out what on earth is going on between them all.

I feel if there had been more to the story it could have really been done well and had more room for development, but because it was short I felt like it didn’t have the room it needed to come to its own.

Anyway, I liked this book good enough and have added the next one to my reading list so give it a read and see what you think.

Sorry for the lack of reviews!

God I don’t even know where to start. I got so sick to the point that I couldn’t move, or stay concious for longer than 10 minutes at a time for over a week, making me fall seriously in my tafe work thusly not letting me read anything but my veterinary text book. Then before I could even make up on that lost time I developed a walnut sized lump on my hip causing shooting pain down my leg constantly and making it seriously difficult to walk, which made it really hard to focus on tafe, so making me fall even further behind. When it stopped hurting I thought that it kind of felt smaller, but then I felt the other side and I’m starting to develop another lump. Needless to say there is a trip to the doctors in my future, which if my boyfriend wasn’t practically dragging me to would never happen, doctors are at the top of my things I would rather suffer forever before I face them. With that stress, comes less focus on tafe work, and no time to read. I’m in the final month and ‘Im about 2 weeks behind that, so I highly doubt I will be putting up a review in the next month or so. I feel so bad, I have so many books sitting here that authors have sent me to read. I will get to them guys! I promise, it just wont be within the next month. I didnt even get to read my book club books this month!

The books I have waiting on my shelf are:
