Mid-Event Survey

What are you reading right now?

Nana Volume 1 by Ai Yazaea

How many books have you read so far?

I have read three but I have yet to finish all of them.

What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

I picked books I new I would love so all of them. Maybe finishing Farthing Wood because I have yet to read this book before.

Have you had many interruptions?

Sorta. There was that sleep nap because I can never just nap and always end up sleeping. Getting ready and getting food will interrupt me though.

How did you deal with those?

I passed out .There wasn’t much to deal with. But in terms of leaving the house I will be listening to audio books :)

What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?

How short some of the challenges run for. I am sad I missed the because of stupid sleep :(

Snapshot Challenge

Readers, your challenge is to take a literal or figurative snapshot of your favorite moment either from the book you are currently reading or from a book you have already read during the ReadAThon. Visually symbolize the moment you choose (“shelfie”, drawing, digital art, etc), you can compose poetic tweet, or perhaps post a video reenacting the scene. Be creative; there are no limits! Whichever medium you select, please caption your entry with the title and author of the book upon which your snapshot is based if possible.

Host post.

My favourite moment in The Animals of Farthing Wood is when Fox meets Vixen and saves her from The Hunt.

Feelings:

So I feel better and bad. I had to sleep. I think I set an alarm clock but I turned it off. having only gotten a couple of hours of sleep the night before and having getting up hours before the even started was killing me. I couldn’t drink an more energy drink at that point because my heart kind of felt like it was going to explode AND I was still falling sleep. So because I slept I feel better, but thats 6 hours I am not getting back for reading (though I got a bit of that done with audio book before I fell asleep)… and I missed out on some mini challenges because they ended. Oh well.

Armchair Travelling

One of the many delights of reading is the ability books have to help us travel the world in our imaginations – rich descriptions and stories that make us feel transported, even if we haven’t left our couch.

But what if you could actually be transported into the setting of the novel? Magically teleported while you’re reading, with the ability to look up and take in the setting all around you, and then find yourself home again when you close the book?

For rules and more details check out the host blog.

nana17

This was easy for me. Pretty much any volume of Nana because 1. I dont think I have any other books that happen in the real world in places of any interest, and 2. because pretty much the entire series takes place in Tokyo which I would love to see!

Pumpkin And Spice or Naw

Take a selfie with smiles and a thumbs up for team Pumpkin Spice or with a frown and thumbs down for Pumpkin Spice haters. Leave me a link to your blog post/Instagram/Tweet/Tumble in the comments (keep in mind your privacy settings will need to allow me to see said post).

Host blog.

Have I mentioned that I hate selfie based contests? I was asleep 20 minutes ago how good do you expect me to look?

I chose: I dunno because I have never had it because we don’t do drinks like that in Australia so I guess no?

There wasn’t even another option for me in terms of which book to write about.

I love each and everyone of the characters, even the ones I hate I love. The connection and love that develops between them all is just so beautiful and touching. I loved the plot structure because I had to work out in what order those past events happened and understand how it relates to what we are living through in the present. And the writing is beautifully woven, both subtle and bold knowing exactly what is needed at each point in the story.

For my full review of this book check out On The Jellicoe Road.

Top Ten List

It’s time to make your top 10 list of something that has to do with the read-a-thon.

Easy and simple right? Check out the host blog for more info.

The topic I have chosen is top ten things I enjoy about read-a-thons.

  1. Making a dent in my ever expanding TBR!
  2. Knowing that at the same time hundreds of other people feel the same way I do about reading and are joining in with me.
  3. They can come with mini challenges that just add to the fun!
  4. Networking. They are a great way to find new bloggers that I enjoy.
  5. They give me a ‘valid’ excuse to spend all my time reading when I should probably be doing other things.
  6. I get to find out about new amazing books to go out and add to my expanding TBR!
  7. They make me feel accomplished because of how much I read.
  8. I generally find them extremely relaxing (the 24 hour kind are less so because you have the weeks worth of stuff to do in a day haha)
  9. Its a great time to indulge in food of the comfort kind.
  10. I often get to books I wouldn’t normally pick up.

The Ugly Cover Pitch

Pick a book that you felt was a winner of a read but was sorely lacking in the cover art department and try to persuade me that it was the best book ever. What greatness will I discover if I can look past its eyesore of an exterior? Leave your pitch in a comment on this post, and be sure to include a link to a picture of the cover!

Be sure to check out the host blog for more info.

My cover:

9781595141743

For any of the Vampire Academy or Bloodlines books really. They all have the most ugly bloody covers that tell you nothing about what on earth is going on inside it. My pitch:

This book is more than meets the eye. Within its pages you are greeted an alternate reality where vampires hide among us and magic follows close by, but you also get so much more. You females who know how to look after themselves and kick butt. You get friendships that are unbreakable. A passionate romance that is forbidden. Action of every form and mysteries that will leave you devouring the pages looking for the answers. This book starts off with a bang and will leave you wanting more.

Goodreads Road Trip Challenge

Write a short postcard to a friend (or to another of the book’s characters who wasn’t invited on your cross country odyssey) telling them what’s up with you and your new fictional BFF.

or

Find the perfect road trip song for you and your traveling companion to rock out to as you burn through the miles, and tell us why it’s such a great fit for this character.

Be sure to check out more info on the goodreads page.

I spent ages finding a good song. Its hard to find a song that suits a book about animals… I chose this because they all decide to leave their home to find a new one when humans start taking over.

Readathon Kids Challenge

Sharing our love of books with the next generation is fun. During the readathon you might find yourself in the company of future readers. Perhaps you’re pregnant and in the habit of reading to your bump, or maybe you have a new baby, toddler, sibling, niece, nephew etc. Maybe you don’t have any kids around you today but you are enjoying some children’s classics. Take a picture of your toddler’s readathon stack, or of your baby looking through a book. Kids and books, let your creativity lead you. Use props, recreate a book cover… Whatever you do make sure to use the hashtag #readathonkids

Be sure to check out the host blog for information on prizes!

Since I have no children I am choosing to take a picture on what I would read to any potential children I may have. This list is for youngish children. I would have more books in an older child’s TBR.

Because its hard to see its: The Animals of Farthing Wood, The Hobbit, The Secret Garden, Robin Hood, Wind In The Willows, Black Beauty, Peter Pan, The Marvellous Land of Oz, The Story of the Treasure Seekers, A House Without Mirrors, and Pippi Longstockings.

What To Read Next Challenge

For this Challenge, you need to recommend 3 books (and only 3 books) that you have read this year that you think should be recognized as something great – something everyone should have on their TBR list for this fall.

For more info check out the host blog.

whats left of me SimonVS_quote_NEW Ava-lavender_march.png

What’s Left of Me: I am putting this book here because next to The Host, its the only book I know of that deals with issues of double identities living in the one body. I found it really easy to read and I flew through it in one sitting.

Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda: I am putting it on the list because it was my surprise of the year. Its not the kind of book I would ever pick up but I really enjoyed it and found it to be funny and honest.

Ava Lavender: I cannot put this one into words. You know where the story is going but that doesn’t ruin anything. Its a tragically beautiful story that everyone should read. Its on its own level.

And thats all for this read-a-thon! I hope you all had a great week.

Book Road Trip

I love going on road trips or any kind of trip for that matter and I always bring a TON of books with me. For this challenge, I’d like for you to come up with a list of the top 4-5 states/places you’d love to visit and find a book (you either read or want to read) that takes place in that state/place or a book by an author who lives or is from there.

For more info check out the host blog.

Hmm this is hard because I actually have to think about where the books are taking place. Normally its not really something I pay much attention to.

Character Soulmates

Today I have the Character Soulmates Challenge for you. It’s great because we are going to be shipping characters from different books. Have you ever thought __(person)__ from this book would be just perfect with __(person)__ from this other book? Well here is your chance to finally pair them up and watch the sparks fly.

For more info check out the host blog.

I hate challenges like this for one reason. I can literally never think of anyone. My brain doesn’t pluck characters out and put them with others in different books. But here we are and I am going to give it a go anyway.

fallen-lauren-katePoision Princess

Who:

Arriane Alter from the Fallen series by Lauren Kate and Matthew from the Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole.

Ship Name: Arriew

They have the worst names to combine ever.

Reason:

I want these guys to be together because they are both just a little bit bonkers. Arriane has ‘out bursts’ that leave her seeming unstable and a little bit dangerous. Mattew since he can see the future often seems not with it and crazy. Arriane likes a bit of crazy and she can be a strong stable person who Matthew can rely on and he can give her the affection she deserves.

MASH is a fun little game where you write up options for your future and then after getting a number, go through until you have one choice for each category – and have your future right there in front of you!

For more info or how to play, check out the host blog.

I know that entries have closed for this one but I couldn’t get to a computer on day 3 so I decided I would just do it anyway because its a fun little challenge that I haven’t done before. Here is what I got!

WP_20150821_003

I am an Animal Keeper who lives in a Shack with my husband Mr Darcy on the lands of Pemberley. We have one child, get around in a flying car and have a wild cat as a pet.

LOL. A shack at Pemberley.

Fours Seasons In Book Covers

For this challenge, you need to convey the four seasons in book covers – through color, title, cover, etc. You can be literal or take a more creative approach. Anything goes! Just show me four seasons in book covers.

For more info check out the host blog.

I am annoyed that I cannot take pictures of these books in some way because I’m not home, but I suppose the covers will have to do. I am surprised by how many books I could use for winter. The order for my seasons are: Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring.
