Now I think quite a lot of these are going to be ones I have yet to read the books for.

1. Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. ITS BEING MADE BY TIM BURTON. Its literally the best thing ever even though I have yet to read the book.

2. Mockingjay (Part 2) by Suzanne Collins. Its going to be so glorious. I am sad the movies are ending.

3. The Sandman by Neil Gaiman. I hear tell that this is happening. This gets me very excited.

4. The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling. The trailer for this looks awesome.

5. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. Its got Liam Neeson in it. Its going to be awesome.

6. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander (J.K. Rowling). Haven’t done any of her books yet but I am totally down for this.

A Monster Calls. Patrick Ness. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them me before you

8. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. This list has shown me I need to hurry up and read a lot of books, and this is one of them.

9. Looking For Alaska by John Green. An ok book. Will it make a good movie?

10. Fallen by Lauren Kate. As someone who didn’t mind most he books (seriously just skip the 3rd), I am interested in seeing what they do with this movie.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books I’d Love To See As Movies/TV Shows

1. Cinder by Marissa Meyer, plus the rest of the series. I think this would make a really fun and enjoyable series with its mix of seriousness and playfulness.

2. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I think this would make a good movie.

3. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. This would make an amazingly beautiful movie.

Cinder_Cover SimonVS_quote_NEW the-snow-child

4. The Forgotten War by Howard Sargent. An awesome idea for a series. It would have to go passed where the book ended but its easy to do so.

5. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. While I didn’t completely love the book I think it would make a great movie.

6. The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Mass. An awesome, awesome series.

7.  A Spell For Chameleon by Piers Anthony. Movie candidate!

8. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Movie.

9. The Archived by Victoria Schwab. Good idea for a movie I think.

And I cannot think of a tenth. I actually found it hard to pick things that were not my favourites encase they get ruined and things that are not already in the making for movies.

From Book To Movie – Mockingjay Part 1

Mockingjaypart1

Title: Mockingjay Part 1

Genre: Dystopian, Science Fiction

Rating: 5 Star

Movie Series Reviews: 1, 2, 3, 4

Book Series Reviews: 123

Description/Synopsis:

When Katniss destroys the games, she goes to District 13 after District 12 is destroyed. She meets President Coin who convinces her to be the symbol of rebellion, while trying to save Peeta from the Capitol.

Movie Review – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

I absolutely loved everything about this movie. I am going to assume everyone reading this review has already seen the movie or read the book so this will be your one and only spoiler warning. Towards the end will contain spoilers, you have been warned.

I don’t know about you guys, but when they announced that this last movie was being split up into two parts I was so happy. Some people where annoyed by this because they think that every series ever is now splitting things up into sections because Harry Potter did it, but I don’t think this is just a way to milk the series longer. The last book was not the best one, it was by far the worst in the entire series. You kind of felt rushed the entire time and it did not flow correctly. Lots of new random capital kind of things happen and when I read the book after the first movie came out my first thought was that there was no way they were going to fit that books story into one movie when the book was barely long enough to tell it correctly.

And I was so happy with what I got. I went and saw the movie in its opening week, and after the first few days I had heard from people who had not read the books that it was the worst movie so far and a lot of them did not like it. How pleased I was to find that I think they are all wrong and I actually think its my favourite so far. The first part of the book was slow because it has a lot of build up to the second half, so to those expecting fighting non stop like in the first two be aware that that is not what you are going to get. This part of the movie deals with how the first two games have affected everyone and the lead up to bringing down the capital in the next part.

There were very few changes to the overall story in this movie compared to the book. I have always loved the changes where they show things that are happening in the capital and the other districts that you didn’t get to in the books because Katniss was not there a lot of the time. I enjoy seeing the effect. I also loved the talks between Coin and Plutarch and their reasons for while they let Katnis do all the things she does like go back and visit district 12. I was sad that Finnick was not in their as much as I wanted him to be, but the moments we did get were both sad and touching at the same time. I also loved the inclusion of Effie throughout the movie and little comical tidbits. The part where Plutarch is telling her her door is not locked and she can come and go as she pleases but still acts as though she is in prison is great. It has always bothered me that her father is never mentioned considering that he was such a big part of everything she does, but I get why he is not there. Another thing we got that I was not really expecting was that they humanised Coin a bit and made us see her in a more lighter and sadder way. She still has to die so I am interested in how they are going to make that come full circle.

The things that were the same were all exactly what I wanted from them. Katniss was so so broken is was amazing, and the fact that the wig made her look a little ‘wrong’ I think made the effect better. I couldn’t not see the wig though. I also loved every moment with the cat, when it gets shoved into the bag was amazing. I think the entire theatre laughed there. I loved our moments with Haymitch as well even though he is notmy most favourite person anymore. When he shows up at Katniss’s horrible propo, and then when she breaks down with him after she realises what they are doing to Peeta because she keeps fighting back.

I think the part where Katniss sings The Hanging Tree was the best part of the entire movie. Jen did an amazing job. She doesn’t have a voice that I would describe as one that the birds would stop singing so that they could listen to her, but it was powerful and really captured the moment. I don’t know if I like the lyric change of ‘necklace of rope’ to ‘necklace of hope,’ but I suppose it was a little bit too obviously about death for the younger people if they started sing about necklaces of rope in a hanging tree, and a necklace of hope can have the same meaning so I guess it still all works. When we cut from Katniss singing to… district 5? singing the words with her heading to blow up the damn despite the fact they all know they are going to die if they do it was so well done. I also liked how Katniss singing was spliced into that final communication with the capital and Peeta looks a mess then hears her singing and starts crying and then warns them about the attack. I think this was a nice touch because Peeta had always loved to listen to her sing.

We can all take a guess as to where the movie ends. I really thought it was all over when they bashed the back of his head and everything black. I suppose that would have been a really nasty cliff hanger for those who don’t know what is coming however so they gave us a tiny bit more with much struggling and being tied down.

And there we have it folks. I loved this moving, actually really want to go see it again and I have been listening to The Hanging Tree on repeat since I saw it. This movie seems like it is going to be a far better presented and developed ending to the series. I think waiting a year might just kill me even if I am not ready for that level of sadness is my life.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books & Movies to Read & Watch to get in the Halloween Spirit

Creating this list has seriously shown me how greatly under read/watched I am in wonderful Halloween/horror things. Horror movies used to be my favourite so I don’t understand why I cannot think of any! This must be fixed.

1. Since I literally watch this every Halloween the number one spot for me goes to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Check out its catchy Halloween song here.

2. The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. I think Anne Rice is pretty much a safe choice in general for Halloween/horror kind of books. This one though is filled with witchy goodness

3. The Silence of the Lambs. Now who doesn’t like this movie? Its suspenseful and has Jodie Foster. Not sure if I would call this a Halloween movie but its going on the list anyway.

4. Ever Near by Melissa MacVicar. For those who want a dose of ghostly reads.

5. Sleepy Hollow (1999 Movie). You can tell that Tim Burton is going to pop up a bit can’t you? But who could leave this off a movie list?

6. The Passage by Justin Cronin. Zombie time!

7. House of 1000 Corpses. Anything Rob Zombie touches is horrifying and has an amazing soundtrack.

sleepyhollow The-Passage-2 house-of-1000-corpses

8. Zodiac. Scary cause it really happened.

9. Edward Scissor Hands. Here is Tim again! I really think he is one of my favourites.

10. The Strangers. When people mentally and physically torture you for no reason other than the fact you were home.

and 11. for good measure, Misery. Such a good movie.

And there is my list! More movie than book but what can you do. Not all of them are totally scary either but meh.

Be sure to share your lists this is an area I need to work on clearly.

From Book To Movie – Divergent

Title: Divergent

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Romance

Rating: 4.5 Star

Book Series Reviews: 123

Description/Synopsis:

In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late.

Review – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Hmmm. I have some thoughts about this movie. I enjoyed it well enough and I smiled through some parts but there were some points where I just wanted to yell at the screen cause it was all wrong. They are as follows:

  1. Character hight. Tris is supposed to be the shortest person at last in the transfers. So why oh why was she like miles higher than Christina?! Actually lets just say that Christina all up. She was horribly cast. I hate her.
  2. Tris didn’t go colder in personality as the story continued. She seemed to cry at every chance she got. She has a mental breakdown in the lunch room after all attacked her (so not the Tris we know!) and she tries to talk Will out of shooting her instead of just shooting then proceeds to have another breakdown and she totally breaks down when her mum dies, though that one didn’t bother me so much.
  3. Lack of pain. Tris, and a few other people, are suppose to just be made of bruises at some points but they barely ever got a scratch. I was so looking forward to seeing how they made Tris look after she nearly got thrown off that ledge cause that is suppose to put her back in everyones good graces but nope. They didn’t do that, she just had a tiny little scratch. But I suppose they didn’t need to bring her back into their good graces because she never left them!!!! The only person who got angry was Al. I mean really guys, you are trying to describe this world as cut throat yet they are still all lovely dovey at the same time? Doesn’t work.
  4. She barely got shot. I know you think this may fall under number 3 but I think it deserves its own spot. She isn’t really able to use that arm at all in the next book, yet she barely got a scratch from that bullet in this movie. It is also meant to be the reason why Jeanine sends her off to be killed, because she doesn’t think she will live with the amount of blood she loss, but in the movie she says she’s defective or something… which doesn’t even make sense… her being hurt would have no effect on her little mind control things or no one in the book if they got hurt would still be under her control… Stupid. Just so so stupid. You are probably expecting me to complain about about how she didn’t get put into the tub of water to die cause Jeanine made it special for her, which at first I was annoyed about, but when I think about it its ok that they were just going to go shoot her, the moment of salvation still worked.
  5. Key moment changes. Tris is the one to capture the flag, she only had 5 fears instead of 6 though thats not very big, Four isn’t computer savvy for some stupid reason and so at the end they change nearly everything! Jeanine isn’t suppose to help them! It was just so wrong. Molly was nice to Tris, she was never nice to anyone. Peter didn’t stab Edward and thusly I didn’t feel the hatred I was suppose to feel for him. He also wasn’t revealed as one of the guys that tries to kill Tris. He was just annoying the movie. Her mothers death. Though I will accept the way they did it cause it still kind of works, the moment in the book was more heartbreaking. As her mother runs off to distract and sacrifice herself she has a moment of my mother was all selfless and brave. It was beautiful. The way they went with was still touching, but not as much.

So yes, if you ignore all those things that really annoyed me I thought it was a pretty good movie.

There was some moments when she was the Tris I thought she should be. Like when she threw the knife at Jeanine’s hand, that was awesome. Her reactions to people doubting if she would actually shoot them was funny.

I thought Four was pretty well done cast wise. I thought that his fears didn’t seem to bother him as much as they should have, but I till let that slide because in his fear landscapes he was training her on how to do it in a way that Dauntless people would do things. In terms of changes I thought this was a really good one. I always thought that someone should have told her a few things not to do so that she didn’t stick out like a sore thumb so much.

The romance felt a little forced to me but I was satisfied by it none the less. I think the best bit of this relationship was when they were eating lunch. You go Tris, put him in his place.

One thing I didn’t get but can let go of because I think it would have been pretty hard to do was the glass dome thing inside of the Dauntless headquarters. I would have loved to see that, but I get why they left it out. I completely loved how they showed the zip-line thing though. It went of for ages and looked so much better on screen than it did in my head. I was there flying with her in the movie, it was totally awesome! The cracks she went through in buildings and the extra things they threw in was awesome. I loved the way that all the factions were introduced, I loved the Dauntless, they looked awesome!! I would want to join them too. I was so sad that they left out the bit where Christina is scared of moths, that was an awesome scene.

The fear landscapes were done and awesomely introduced. I loved the one with the dog scene the most. When she leapt at that dog was awesome. The birds were scary, I was like NO NOT THE EYES! the entire time she was dealing with them. I have always loved when she shatters the glass tank. They pulled that scene off perfectly.

Though Eric and Peter were not the ones I was used to, I still hated them. Even though, that moment when Tris is running after the train to play in the war games even though Eric said she was out, and then she gets on and kind of tells him off a bit and you kind of see a bit of respect go into his eyes and he lets her stay. I am really interested to see if that moment kind of changes anything later on. (I was so happy when I saw her running for that train. Awesome, awesome scene.)

One other bit that actually annoyed me was that Tris didn’t seem to hate contact the way she is suppose to, so Four was like a rapist in her fear landscape. Not good!

The soundtrack was really well done.

If you haven’t seen the movie yet don’t read the next bit it might be really distracting.

Some funny thing that I was kind of giggling about the entire time thanks to TheBookTuber, Jeanine’s actor is preggers while filming so the entire time, she has like folders or laptop bags in her hand always moving them to try and hide it hahaha. I really hope you have seen the movie before you read this, because you can’t unsee it.

So yes, I did actually love this movie despite all my book loving complaints. It was good. People who read the book should at least give it ago, but if you nit pick too much you might not like it. I’m interested in seeing how they do the next one, cause all the books are very different from each other.

Till Next Time…
