Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon – April 2016 (Hour 11)

So I had a nap in hour 8 and awoke this hour to see that I won a prize in hour 9. Very exciting. I don’t know what to do about Dragonfly In Amber. When I was falling asleep I was listening to it on audio book and I am not sure I got it all… To go back as far as I think I need to and count the pages again? Or just go forward and trust I didn’t miss too much?

What I Read:

  1. Dragonfly In Amber by Diana Gabaldon
  2. Special by Georgia Blain

Pages Read: 32

Share A Quote

Since I cannot help myself, I am going to share two. They are short and are both from Dragonfly In Amber by Diana Gabaldon.

I stood still, vision blurring, and in that moment, I heard my heart break. It was a small, clean sound, like the snapping of flower’s stem.

Torn between the impulse to stroke his head, and the urge to cave it in with a rock, I did neither.

Character Destination

I choose Rose Hathaway because really, if there are no strigoi to kill she would make the trip amazing.  Now the actual destination part I find hard. Being in Australia there isn’t really anywhere I want to road trip here much…

I suppose we can start off in Victoria even though I don’t live there and drive along the Great Ocean Road and see things like the 12 Apostles, then drive all the way up to northern Queensland and do things like the Great Barrier Reef, and finally Daintree Rainforest.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon – April 2016 (Hour 8)

Im falling asleep now which is just making me re-read the same page at least twice each time before I can move on. I have officially been awake for 24 hours already thanks to my long arse working day. I have downed a full V in the time between this post and the last so I think I am going to back for 2-3 hours. I don’t want to miss any challenges after all.

What I Read:

  1. Dragonfly In Amber by Diana Gabaldon
  2. Special by Georgia Blain

Operation: Quotation!

To many, I was myth incarnate, the embodiment of a most superb legend, a fairytale. Some considered me a monster, a mutation. To my great misfortune, I was once mistaken for an angel. To my mother, I was everything. To my father, nothing at all. To my grandmother, I was a daily reminder of loves long lost. But I knew the truth – deep down, I always did.

I was just a girl.

Road Trip Challenge

Captionless Image

Dear Ivy,

I think of you every day. I have found out so much about you and what it was actually like for you those few years at Halton and I cannot begin to go into what they must have been like. I wish I could see you again, but you never came back from the ‘tests’. When everything fell apart Lark and Wren sent me away with a new identity to hide out until things were better. If you are still out there, are you going through something similar? While I miss everyone terribly, I must admit that I am enjoying moving from place to place and seeing the world that I was never supposed to see. Being able to make up my mind about things in a way I was never able to before. Its almost freeing not being Special.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon – April 2016 (Hour 3)

Since it is hour one I am feeling pretty good. I have eaten some pizza, and I am having a bit of a drink. The drink might not be a good idea cause it might put me to sleep, but meh.

Our Bookish Childhoods

  1. The love of reading was awakened in my by my father reading me things like The Hobbit when it was time for bed.
  2. Because I am dyslexic, something no one ever bothered to test me for but its very obvious now in adulthood, learning to read and write was very painful and very embarrassing. But one of the first books I got into once I got past the reading part of this hurdle (I still cant spell) was The Woman In the Wall by Patrice Kindl.
  3. One of, if not the first, serious series I read was Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda.
  4. Some of my favourite childhood books where the Fear Street books by R.L. Stine.
  5. When I was younger I would get up at 5am so that I could have some time to read before school, and got very upset when others woke up that early because that was my time in the morning.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon – April 2016

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is an event that goes for 24 hours and everyone all around the world starts at the same time. This time the event is taking place on the 23rd of October.

If you would like to sign up go ahead and do that here, for times check them out here, and for a list of prizes that you can win by being in this competition check them out here.

Now just like last time, this event starts at 10pm for me on a day where I have to be awake at 5:30 for work and dont finish till 4:30 and then drive an hour and a half home. I shall try to nap for a few hours before hand, but my dodgy sleep issues probably wont allow it.

The books I would like to read are:

Water_Babies soundless animals of farthing wood special

Now I have no intention of reading or finishing all of these, but I just want some choice when it comes to reading during the read-a-thon.

2016 Reading & Blogging Resolutions

Welcome everyone! I am so looking forward to the year to come so we might as well get started.

I think I am going to do my reading challenges a bit different this year. Less but more. I am going to do less challenges but I think they are going to be more challenging than the ones I have done in years past.

  • I will complete my Goodreads challenge of reading 90 books this year. I chose to keep the number the same because I want to try and not use single mangas towards it.
  • A-Z Challenge: Read 26 books that follow the alphabet.
  • Read at least 5 books that have been turned into movies/series, watch their movie/series counter parts, and review them both.
  • Read at least 10 books that have been on my TBR shelf for more than a year.
  • Debut Author Challenge: Reading at least 12 books by a debut author.
  • Reread at least 3 books.
  • DNF books you are not liking after 150 pages. This one I will ignore if I get told it gets better in the second half.

  • Participate in more challenges/memes/tags.
  • Be more active in our book blogging/vlogging community.
  • From this day forth, I will put up a post every three days!
  • Take notes while reading for reviews.
  • Review every book I read, even if its just a partial review.
  • Schedule my posts and reviews in advance.
  • Update the blog in one way or another (looks, domain name, youtube)
  • Be more active on social media in relation to the blog.

I think I shall leave my resolutions at that for now. I am working very hard on trying to get into my desired work field right now and have huge assignments this year and I don’t want to over stretch.

Book Review – Crown Of Midnight

crown of midnight

Title: Crown of Midnight [Throne of Glass 2]

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

Length: 418

Rating: 5 Star

Series Review: 0.51, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend.

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

I have no way to talk about this book or the rest of the series without spoiling anything. All you need to know is that the first one was amazing, and this one was even better. Go forth and read all the books.

Just so many things. In this book we have so much plot and character development that it is just really blew my mind just a little bit. So I think the easiest way for me to talk about this book is to talk about each of the events that just struck me. Forgive me if they are out of order, my thoughts are not in order.

Celaena. She both kick arse and struggling with damsel in distress, and it takes her soooooo long to work out like the most simplest things in this book. If she is not totally loosing it and everything around her is dying, she is struggling to do most things. Luckily in this book she tends to take on more of the ‘I am going to kill everyone’ mode and it is completely glorious. The part where Chaol is ‘kidnapped’ and she comes tearing into the warehouse and she is just cutting down people left right and centre without a second thought and Chaol actually realises shaking of creature he has unleashed upon the world. But then my heart dies with her as it comes to light that Chaol knows what is going on has been hiding from her and everyone that Nehemia’s life is in danger.

She basically flies through the night to get back to her but she was too late and returns to the bloody and tortured corpse that was her best and really only friend. This moment just kills me. The conversation she had with the dead queen about her knowing what she needed to do and how Nehemia hoped it wouldn’t push Celaena over the edge. I thought she was just going to stop talking to her or something like that. She knew, she knew she was going into what could only have been a horrible death. I was right there with her when she was trying to kill Chaol. He deserved every single slash that came his way, but I glad he didn’t die because he is good for her in the way he pushes her. I relished the death she brought to the person who killed Nehemia though. That was a really satisfying and slow bit of pain and suffering.

I felt so sad for Dorian pretty much the entire time in this book. I didn’t see his magic coming at all and I have to tell you it got me so excited about what is to come in the rest of the series and what this means for him. Celaena w such a cow to him at the start but when she finds out about his powers they start bonding over it and they work together gash and its just beautiful.

I would just like to take a brief moment here and say while I can only picture her with Sam, out of Dorian and Chaol I am team Dorian. Dorian has always accepted Celaena for who she is and actually lets her relax around him and makes her laugh, Chaol is good that he pushes her up when she needs it when Dorian fails, but he looks down on her a lot of the time about who she is and what he thinks she does even though he is supposed to love her. Cannot forgive him for that.

Now Celaena’s big plot point of being Fey and being the lost Queen Aelin I saw that coming from a mile away. No one come screaming lies at me cause its true. Aelin got brought up all the times Celaena’s past was always surrounded in mystery. We had heaps of signs guys. The full Fey thing though, that was a bit of a surprise. I wasn’t too sure on how Fey the royal family were, but that moment she bursts through the portal at the end and breaks out into her Fey form to save her dog and her friends. Chills. Celaena is her ‘animal’ form she got stuck in when magic went away.

I am still screaming over the events in this book, so before this review becomes too long I am going to cut myself off. Which moments got to you the most? Come and discuss all these things with me! Seriously guys, I have no friends in my day to day life that understand the way I am with books and reading so I have no one else to talk these things over with. This is the kind of book that needs talking about!
