Top Ten Tuesday – Longest Books I’ve Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Longest Books I’ve Read

This is both such an easy list and such a time consuming one! I have read many long books, but the time it took to go through the books I have read the last few years consumed a bit of time haha. These are the ones I can remember to the best of my ability, in order from longest to ‘shortest.’

1. The Forgotten War by Howard Sargent at 1074 pages.

2. The Passage by Justin Cronin at 963 pages.

3. The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings at 913 pages.

4. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon at 850 pages.

5. Inheritance by Christopher Paolini 849 pages.

6. Magician by Raymond E. Feist at 803 pages.

7. A Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin at 801 pages.

Top Ten Tuesday – Unread Books by Favourite Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books By My Favourite Authors That I Still Haven’t Read

After feeling like I have had a few hard lists lately this one is a really easy one for me because there are so many books by favourite authors that I haven’t read because my follow through is really bad apparently hahaha. I think this will mostly be a list of series I have yet to finish.

1. Winter by Marissa Meyer. I love this series, and I did all the other books all in a row but this one had not come out yet so I didn’t pick it up and thusly I still haven’t read it.

2. War Storm by Victoria Aveyard. See above, but at least for this one it hasn’t been a huge amount of time and I still remember a lot of it.

3. A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas. I am actually a little worried about this one, that I wont enjoy it. But I’m not in a rush since I rereading ToG anyways.

4. Fate of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. I was so eager for this book when I finished the second one but had to wait AGES since I read the second book as an arc, and I still have yet to get it.

5. Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder. I own all her books because I loved the first two study books but still have yet to read anymore of them.

6. The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli. I was really surprised by just how much I loved Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda so I was eager to start one of her other works and it still sits waiting on my shelf.

7. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta. Many of you may know that Marchetta wrote my favourite book and I have read some of her other works which I have not enjoyed as much but I have heard amazing things about this one.

8. Heir to Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier. I want to reread the first three again before I continue on with the series but the first book is one of my all time favourites.

9. Midnight Jewel by Richelle Mead. I am actually considering just dropping this series. I didn’t mind the first but I did not love it the way I loved VA and found it had a lot of issues. If anyone can tell me that this one is better than the first I shall continue, but otherwise I will probably unhaul these two soon.

10. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. Little bit of a cheat for this one since I was reading it before I put it down to reread ToG, but I contemplating not picking it back up. Again, if anyone who didn’t like this book at first finished it and loved please let me know.

Top Ten Tuesday – On My Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books on my Fall Spring TBR

You will see a pattern for my list this week. I am planning on doing a huge reread over the next few weeks, and while I feel like its cheating to list books from the same series, I am not planning on reading much else right now.

1. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas.

2. Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas.

3. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas.

4. Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas.

5. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. There you go guys. I read Tower of Dawn the other day and I realised that I do not remember enough and need to reread pretty much everything before this final book comes out. I am so damn excited, but I don’t know what I will do once this series ends.

6. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. I am currently reading this book, but as it stands at pages 272/468 I am not enjoying it very much and I am probably going to put it down to do my rereads. I don’t know if I will continue on or not.

7. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I really want to finally do this one as Zusak is coming to Brisbane and I need to get my copes signed and I need to read them first haha.

8. Vigilante by Kady Cross. I had started this at one point and put it down. I need to pick it back up.

9. The Continent by Keira Drake. Another one I started but put down for some reason or another.

10. Sleepy Hollow and Other Short Stories by Washington Irving. A really short one to round it all off because there are some hefty books on this list.

Top Ten Tuesday – Hidden Gems

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books That Are Hidden Gems

Now when I say hidden gems, I mean I think they should be talked about more. If other people talk about them lots or they had lots of publicity, I obviously missed it because they ended up on this list.

1. On the Jellicoe Road By Melina Marchetta. Ding ding ding ding. I bet no one is surprised this is once again at the very top of my list. At this point even I am starting to get annoyed with myself with how often I bring up this book, but really how can I leave it off the list. I feel like I am a lone person just trying to advertise this book by running down the street screaming its name.

2. The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton. It was around when it first came out but it needs to be something I see everywhere for me to feel like it is getting the attention it deserves.

3. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. This week is apparently just a list of my most favourite books so far. I wonder if they are my favourites because I haven’t seen a whole bunch of people talk about them and I went in with no expectations? Ignore that thought and go read the books anyway haha.

4. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Again, I feel like I just need to run screaming its name down the street or keep screaming its name into the void in the hopes that

5. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. Thinking about the books I have seen in the bookish universe, I don’t remember seeing this one pop up very much and I loved it so much.

6. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. I know this is a big series by a big name author, but I never really see it mentioned anywhere so it gets a place on my list this week.

7. The Sentinel Mage by Emily Gee. An actual hidden gem haha. I don’t think I have seen this book mentioned anywhere at anytime. I got it from the publishers and that was it. The second book was even better than this one.

8. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Its won awards and stuff but I really don’t see it mentioned in any TTT’s or just in the bookish community in general, so I shall mention it.

9. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. As more time passes I feel like this book fades into the background and it needs to be pushed back to the front of the lime light.

10. The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Ok guys hear me out. Yes it got good publicity but I feel like a lot of people snubbed it because it was by Stephanie Meyer and they thought it was going to be like Twilight. Guys this book is much better. I reread it basically yearly.

Top Ten Tuesday – Binge Worthy Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Binge Worthy Shows

I am not so interested in writing my own list this week, as I am in seeing everyone elses lists. I don’t think I have done a list like this before with everyone else, so I am really interested in seeing if the people I know have similar book tastes have similar TV show taste as well! This list is in no particular order, and I am going to try and limit it to things that have just come out or are coming out soon.

1. Disenchantment on Netflix. I have completed all of this already and I enjoyed it. I don’t think it has reached its full potential yet, but I can see great things to come. If you like a darker Simpsons/Futurama then you will like this.

2. The Good Place on Netflix. About a girl who was supposed to go to hell or the bad place but ends up in the good place and chaos ensues. I wont say more, but this is just an awesome show. I can’t wait for the next season.

3. The 100. The show can be really messed but, and the latest season wasn’t the best, but god I love it. Its not one you want to do one episode at a time.

4. Game of Thrones. Yes, I know this didn’t come out this year and I don’t get more till next year, but I feel robbed by this skipped year and I hate it! I can’t wait to see how they end the series.

5. Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia. This is my households ‘family’ show. Myself, my partner, and our two housemates all get together on its release days and watch it. Safe to say we really enjoy it.

6. Shameless (US). Not to be mistaken with the UK one, which I cannot stand. I may be a season behind on this show (maybe) but when I watch it I fly through it.

7. Criminal Minds. Again I may be behind, but once I have a good amount of the show to watch I just sit and watch it until there is no more. I have watched the whole series more than once.

8. Modern Family. A nice more light-hearted show to watch between all the serious. Its one of my favourite break moments when it comes out.

9. South Park. For those who like that kind of thing, it can have some really funny moments.

10. Iron Fist on Netflix. I don’t know if I would binge watch this, but its the only other thing coming out that I like to sit back and watch.

Top Ten Tuesday – Set At School

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books Set At School

I found this list a bit hard to decide what direction to go in. Its been a moment since I was at school and I wanted to try and think of an interesting way to take the topic and was coming up blank. So I decided I was over thinking the topic and thought just being at school can be complicated enough, so why don’t I just focus on books that deal with the issue of just dealing being in that environment.

1. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series by Jenny Han. I just recently finished this series and it was everything I never knew I needed. I also think that it deals really well with how the topics in the books would happen for someone in school.

2. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I am very happy putting this book at number 2 as I can totally see everything that happens in this book being actual things that people in high school have to deal with.

3. On the Jellicoe Road By Melina Marchetta. Really it takes place at a school, did you guys really think it wasn’t going to make the list? The situations are not really going to be something people will face though.

4. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. Yes this deals with things more complicated than just being at school, but its still set there and I loved it so it goes on the list.

5. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Yes the events are extreme, but in some lower economical situations or bad neighbourhoods, these can be challenges that kids will have to deal with.

6. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. This section of the list seems to be a bit depressing, and while the tapes are not something thats really going to happen but the topics faced in the book are real possibilities.

7.Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Again depressing, but it is dealing with those depressing things in the school setting which isn’t always the easiest place for people without that huge topic looming over their heads.

8.  The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I couldn’t really make this list without this book on it.

9.  Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. This is in no way going to come up in normal everyday life, but it takes place in a school so its going on the list.

10. Losing it by Cora Carmack. What happens when a one night stand ends up being with your new professor at college? Read to find out!

Top Ten Tuesday – Frequently Used Words In Titles

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Frequently Used Words In Book Titles on my Shelves

This week you were supposed to pick a genre or a reading age group and find common words used in whatever you picked, but I thought it would be more interesting for me to look at what is on my shelves and find what words I am apparently attracted to. This list probably isn’t the most accurate as I found it hard to actually the words that appear more than once then keep track of which ones I have already counted. I have also counted plurals and singulars in the same group, for example, shadow and shadows have been mashed together. Lets get started after my large disclaimer~

1. Heart – Takes the winning place appearing on my shelves a total of 8 times.

2. Fire – Liking fantasy I think really helped out here with a total of 7 times.

3. Glass – 7 times. Series of books helped out a little here.

4. City – 7 times. Cassandra Clare is pretty much solely responsible for this word appearing so high on the list.

5. King – times. Again, fantasy.

6. Queen – 6 times. Gotta be equal. I will be honest and a say that my multiple copies of Red Queen helped a little.

7. Shadows – times.

8. Study – 5 times. Maria V. Snyder and her Study series making a strong appearance. It is literally every single one haha.

9. Storm – 4 times.

10. Court – 4 times. Sarah J. Maas pretty much holds this place.

What words are you attracted to when picking out books? I chose to leave out my manga because you can have literally 22 things with the same name and thought it would be pointless. I also didn’t use any words that were not a serious part of the title like ‘the.’

Top Ten Tuesday – Liked Books I Don’t Remember

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books I Liked But Don’t Remember Very Much

I would like to thank Goodreads and my Reviewed and Rated list for helping me to remember the books I have read and forgotten about.

1. Every Day by David Levithan. This one easy takes first place for me because I have read it twice in a span of a couple of months, but only because I completely forgot I had ready read it. It wasn’t until I was already a little bit of the way through that I remembered. I enjoyed it both times though hahaha.

2. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Excluding the first three and the one I didn’t like I don’t remember pretty much anything that happens in any of them, but according to my reviews I liked them. IM part of the way through number 10 and I remember nothing.

3. Keeping Her by Cora Carmack. I remember Losing It and I loved that, but for some reason this one just left my brain.

4. Ever Near by Melissa MacVicar. Literally nothing. It was about ghosts maybe?

5. The Perks of Being Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. This one is on the list for a bit of a different reason. I feel like I remember a good amount of it, but I remember not liking it. Then I look at my review and rating and apparently I liked it?

6. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I read this one not long ago but I still could not remember enough detail to write a full review. I remember the ending and some parts but I couldn’t remember the clearly enough.

7. Whats Left of Me by Kat Zhang. I really need to reread this book so I can finish of the rest of the series.

8. The Dogs by Allan Stratton. Apparently ones about ghosts leave my mind. I think this book has ghost dogs in it.

9. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I have been wanting to reread this one for the longest time cause I know everyone thinks its amazing but for some reason I never wrote a review and then I didn’t pick up the other ones because I didn’t write a review and now I remember nothing.

10. The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry. I remember being so very pleasantly surprised while reading this book by how much I loved it but I cannot for the life of me remember why I loved it.

It disturbs me how easy this list was for me to make.

Top Ten Tuesday – Liked Books That Won’t Re-Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books I Liked But Will Never Re-Read

Oh my gosh I think I will actually be able to get 10 out of this weeks list! In no particular order here we go:

1. American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I really enjoyed this book once I got over how confusing and trippy it was in the beginning, but I never see myself reading it again. I am really enjoying the TV show too!

2. Still Alice by Lisa Genova. This one got a 5 star rating from me and I really enjoyed it but I just can’t see myself being able to sit through the cringe again. The movie is on my list of things to watch.

3. Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes. This is the second book in a duology and I really liked both but the second fell a bit flat for me and the first one is an easy book to read by itself.

4. The Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dann. I read the book and really enjoyed it, but I read it because I loved the animated series as a child and I feel like I can leave it now knowing I liked it and just happily re-watch the series.

5. Ashes of Life by Erica Lucke Dean. Apparently I really liked this book but I don’t remember it so I probably will never pick it up again.

6. The Returned by Jason Mott. I did it for the series, so my desire for the book isn’t high even though I liked it. I don’t think I ever finished the series. . .

7. Where She Went by Gayle Forman. It ruined some of the first book for me and its fine by itself so I shan’t be doing this one again.

8. The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel. I would like to think I would re-read this book and the second book in the series at some point because I love them, but then I will feel compelled to do the whole series and that is never going to happen.

9. The Silver Linings Playbook by Mathew Quick. I am really looking forward to watching the movie though.

10. Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings. This goes at the bottom because I liked it well enough and as it stands I will not re-read it. But you never know, the rest of the series may blow my mind.
