Top Ten Tuesday – Frequently Used Words In Titles

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Frequently Used Words In Book Titles on my Shelves

This week you were supposed to pick a genre or a reading age group and find common words used in whatever you picked, but I thought it would be more interesting for me to look at what is on my shelves and find what words I am apparently attracted to. This list probably isn’t the most accurate as I found it hard to actually the words that appear more than once then keep track of which ones I have already counted. I have also counted plurals and singulars in the same group, for example, shadow and shadows have been mashed together. Lets get started after my large disclaimer~

1. Heart – Takes the winning place appearing on my shelves a total of 8 times.

2. Fire – Liking fantasy I think really helped out here with a total of 7 times.

3. Glass – 7 times. Series of books helped out a little here.

4. City – 7 times. Cassandra Clare is pretty much solely responsible for this word appearing so high on the list.

5. King – times. Again, fantasy.

6. Queen – 6 times. Gotta be equal. I will be honest and a say that my multiple copies of Red Queen helped a little.

7. Shadows – times.

8. Study – 5 times. Maria V. Snyder and her Study series making a strong appearance. It is literally every single one haha.

9. Storm – 4 times.

10. Court – 4 times. Sarah J. Maas pretty much holds this place.

What words are you attracted to when picking out books? I chose to leave out my manga because you can have literally 22 things with the same name and thought it would be pointless. I also didn’t use any words that were not a serious part of the title like ‘the.’

Top Ten Tuesday – Liked Books I Don’t Remember

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books I Liked But Don’t Remember Very Much

I would like to thank Goodreads and my Reviewed and Rated list for helping me to remember the books I have read and forgotten about.

1. Every Day by David Levithan. This one easy takes first place for me because I have read it twice in a span of a couple of months, but only because I completely forgot I had ready read it. It wasn’t until I was already a little bit of the way through that I remembered. I enjoyed it both times though hahaha.

2. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Excluding the first three and the one I didn’t like I don’t remember pretty much anything that happens in any of them, but according to my reviews I liked them. IM part of the way through number 10 and I remember nothing.

3. Keeping Her by Cora Carmack. I remember Losing It and I loved that, but for some reason this one just left my brain.

4. Ever Near by Melissa MacVicar. Literally nothing. It was about ghosts maybe?

5. The Perks of Being Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. This one is on the list for a bit of a different reason. I feel like I remember a good amount of it, but I remember not liking it. Then I look at my review and rating and apparently I liked it?

6. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I read this one not long ago but I still could not remember enough detail to write a full review. I remember the ending and some parts but I couldn’t remember the clearly enough.

7. Whats Left of Me by Kat Zhang. I really need to reread this book so I can finish of the rest of the series.

8. The Dogs by Allan Stratton. Apparently ones about ghosts leave my mind. I think this book has ghost dogs in it.

9. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I have been wanting to reread this one for the longest time cause I know everyone thinks its amazing but for some reason I never wrote a review and then I didn’t pick up the other ones because I didn’t write a review and now I remember nothing.

10. The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry. I remember being so very pleasantly surprised while reading this book by how much I loved it but I cannot for the life of me remember why I loved it.

It disturbs me how easy this list was for me to make.

Top Ten Tuesday – Liked Books That Won’t Re-Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books I Liked But Will Never Re-Read

Oh my gosh I think I will actually be able to get 10 out of this weeks list! In no particular order here we go:

1. American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I really enjoyed this book once I got over how confusing and trippy it was in the beginning, but I never see myself reading it again. I am really enjoying the TV show too!

2. Still Alice by Lisa Genova. This one got a 5 star rating from me and I really enjoyed it but I just can’t see myself being able to sit through the cringe again. The movie is on my list of things to watch.

3. Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes. This is the second book in a duology and I really liked both but the second fell a bit flat for me and the first one is an easy book to read by itself.

4. The Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dann. I read the book and really enjoyed it, but I read it because I loved the animated series as a child and I feel like I can leave it now knowing I liked it and just happily re-watch the series.

5. Ashes of Life by Erica Lucke Dean. Apparently I really liked this book but I don’t remember it so I probably will never pick it up again.

6. The Returned by Jason Mott. I did it for the series, so my desire for the book isn’t high even though I liked it. I don’t think I ever finished the series. . .

7. Where She Went by Gayle Forman. It ruined some of the first book for me and its fine by itself so I shan’t be doing this one again.

8. The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel. I would like to think I would re-read this book and the second book in the series at some point because I love them, but then I will feel compelled to do the whole series and that is never going to happen.

9. The Silver Linings Playbook by Mathew Quick. I am really looking forward to watching the movie though.

10. Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings. This goes at the bottom because I liked it well enough and as it stands I will not re-read it. But you never know, the rest of the series may blow my mind.

Top Ten Tuesday – Liked Characters In Disliked Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Five Characters I Liked In Books I Disliked

Oh my god I swear I struggle so hard at these lists. I see what the topic is and I scream internally because it sounds really hard to do. If I don’t like a book its normally because I don’t like the characters so I guess we will see…? This might be another five item list again.

1. Arriane from Fallen by Lauren Kate. Specially the third book. I bloody hated the third book.

2. Marcus from Half Wild by Sally Green. Apparently. I remember nothing about this series but in my review apparently I liked this person?

3. Lyra Belaqua from His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. The little I remember from the books I think I liked her, but again I am referring to my reviews to give me the answers.

4. Adrian from Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead. I love him in all books of course, but this was my least liked out of the two series so its on this list.

5. Viv from a Shade of Vampire series by Bella Forrest. Now I am not sure if she is in the first one, and again I don’t actually remember anything about the books, but the first time I mentioned her in a book review was to complain that she wasn’t really in that book and it made me sad. So she makes it on the list hahahaha.

And I am done now. Hopefully sometime soon I can think of ten things to go on a list!

Top Ten Tuesday – In Another Country

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books That Take Place In Another Country

I feel like this weeks challenge is both going to be easier for me and harder because I live in Australia so not many book take place here, but harder because I don’t think I read a lot of books that take place in different parts of the world. Challenge accepted though, hopefully I can think of 10 books I have read that have taken place around the world. I will try not to reuse countries.

1. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Scotland to the rescue!

2. Mao’s Last Dancer by Li Cunxin. Now I know a good chunk of this book also takes place in America, not just China, but its all about his life there in relation to his life and upbringing in China so it counts ok!

3. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. United Kingdom. Ok, I am really struggling haha I may only try for five.

4. Nana by Ai Yazawa. Japan! Manga totally counts ok.

5. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. Ok we have reached America and now I think I have to stop before I explode my brain.

Ok, so I failed to get to 10. I could just name 10 books all from the same country but seems a bit pointless. In what country doesn’t really matter to me so much. I read it and the information just gets thrown straight out again because I have never been to any of these places so I have no idea what they are talking about in reference to anything so it might as well just be a made up place haha.

Be sure to share your lists! I want to see if there are any books on anyone elses lists that I have read and should have put on my list this week.

Top Ten Tuesday – Surprising Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books That Surprised Me

Now because I have had some good ad bad surprises I am going to include both! The books are not really in any sort of order.

Good Surprises

1. Wild by Cheryl Strayed. This was so surprising for me. I don’t normally do autobiographies but I adored this book. This is a theme for my first three books actually. All autobiographies and I loved.

2. You’re Never Weird On The Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day. Other than being a good story I think the way she did the audiobook is what really won me over.

3. Mao’s Last Dancer by Li Cunxin. SUCH an interesting story. Really based on these three books I should give more of a chance to autobiographies since apparently I like them.

4. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. Granted some of my surprise was gone for this one because I knew one was coming, but I didn’t expect that.

5. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I know I have put this on a few of these lists but I am still so surprised by how much I liked it. I am so looking forward to the movie!

Bad Surprises

6. Sex Criminals: One Weird Trick by Matt Fraction. I don’t know what I was expecting but. . . It wasn’t that.

7. The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead. After falling head over heals in love with her VA series I was very sad to find how little I was into this one.

8. Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. Everyone else seemed to loved this but I was so surprised by how much the writing irritated me.

9. Everything I Never Told you by Celeste Ng. The amount of dislike I felt for this book still surprises me since everyone else seems to love it.

10. Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headly. It still upsets me how little I liked this book.

Top Ten Tuesday – In One Sitting

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books I Read In One Sitting

Now I don’t know if I read all of these in one sitting the first time, and some of them I probably took naps or snacks in but basically was just a disgusting mess until I finished them.

1. On the Jellicoe Road By Melina Marchetta. Really at this point I think you guys expect to see this book on every list.

2. The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Not the first time, but I have done it before.

3. Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. Every single one of them. There was like a week there when I just smashed through all the books.

4. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge. I smashed the audiobook of this.

5. Losing it by Cora Carmack. Romance books are the easiest to do in one sitting.

6. Beautiful Mess by Lucy V. Morgan.

7. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. I know I got through this in a day because I actually borrowed this book from my cousin and I wanted to make sure I finished it before I left the state.

8. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. So short and so good.

9. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I flew through this little shortie.

10. Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland. I got through it in one sitting because I had the event and I wanted to actually have read it before going.

Top Ten Tuesday – Autumn TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books On My Autumn TBR

Most of the books on this weeks list are ones publishers have sent me and I still haven’t read. Hopefully I snap out of my seemingly endless reading slump soon and I can actually get to them since a few of these are making a second if not third appearance on a TBR list.

1. Vigilante by Kady Cross. I can to read this one by next week!

2. The Impossible Story of Olive In Love by Tonya Alexandra. Super excited to get into this one.

3. Four Weeks Five People by Jennifer Yu.

4. Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes. Now we begin the list of things that have made more than one appearance on this list….

5. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken.

6. Broken Sky by L.A. Weatherly.

7. Witches Kiss by Katharine Corr.

8. Demon Road by Derek Landy.

9. Heartless by Marissa Meyer. Finally one I want to read just for me! I want to read so so badly…

10. Eldest by Christopher Paolini. Bit of a cheat since I am currently doing the first one but as of right now I am enjoying it enough to pick up the next.

Top Ten Tuesday – Loved But Not Reviewed

topten

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books I Loved But I Didn’t Review

So many. Just so so many. I am catching up on my review list though! I decided to leave off ones I have written a review for but just haven’t posted it yet.

1. Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder. I have not read on with this series because I wanted to do this review first. Its one of my favourites but I still haven’t done it!

2. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. This one is the same as the above. I need to hurry the hell up.

3. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I think I read this just before or just as I was starting to blog so it got missed over but I would love to read it again and give it a review because people don’t seem to talk about it as much as they should.

4. Nana by Ai Yazawa. This one is ot entirely my fault. I have notes for most of them but I lost my notes for the first four volumes somehow so I have to go through them again.

5. Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas. :\

6. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas. :(

7. Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. D’:

8. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I have no idea why didn’t review this book but at this point I might as well just read it again because I don’t remember it well enough.

9. Child Of The Prophecy by Juliet Marillier. I really regret not reviewing this book straight away, its going to be hard to review it after letting it set for awhile.

10. Blue Spring Ride by Io Sakisaka. I think this one missed out on a review because I was not home when I read it. Oh well I will just have to read it again :D

2. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I have both books.

3. The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. I have all of this series.

4. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I have the second book too! I don’t feel so bad about this one though because I know I will like it when I get to it.

5. The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes. I read like the first two pages and then put it down because I loved it and didn’t have time to do it at the time.
