Top Ten Tuesday – Releases I’m On The Fence About

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Upcoming Releases I’m On The Fence About Adding To My TBR

This one was both easy and hard to make. I had zero idea what books were coming out this year and oh my god there are so many! It was easy to find books to add to this list because there were so many things to choose from, the hard part was actually going through all the new books. This list is in no particular order, and there are many more than ten so I have just selected random ones to put here. They all pretty much have the same issue, I can see how they can go wrong if they are not done properly.

1. No One Here is Lonely by Sarah Everett. This one sounds like it can be really good but I am worried it might be too out there for me.

2. Nick and June Were Here by Shalanda Stanley. This sounds like something I could really enjoy but I can see where a lot of things could go wrong and be boring and basic.

3. How to Make Friends With the Dark by Kathleen Glasgow. We are basically given nothing about this book by the synopsis, which both caught my attention but has also made me worried.

4. The Fever King by Victoria Lee. I like the idea but the general idea has been done before so I would hope this one takes it in a different direction.

5. We Must Be Brave by Frances Liardet. This one will either be really interesting or really boring. I don’t think it will have an in between.

6. How to be Luminous by Reuter Hapgood. If this is done right, I think this would be a good read. If it was done right though.

7. Other Words For Smoke by Sarah Marie Griffin. This sounds really strange but maybe its a good strange.

8. If You’re Out There by Katy Loutzenhiser. I can see a lot of things that could sorta go wrong with this one but it still caught my attention.

9. Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith. This has the potential to have a lot of over done things in it.

10. You Owe Me a Murder by Eileem Cook. This one isn’t my go to genre but it sorta sounds interesting.

Be sure to share your lists! I haven’t really read that many spooky books so I would love some recommendations for Halloween reads.

Top Ten Tuesday – Backlist Books I Want To Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Backlist Books I Still Want To Read

For this weeks list I decided to do just a giant shame list for myself. I went back to my first TTT that was a TBR and took any books I still wanted to read on the list. Some of these have been on my TBR for years.

1. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. This takes the first place, as it was on my TBR post from March 18th, 2014.

2. The Giver by Lois Lowry. May 28th, 2014.

3. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. June 27th, 2014.

4. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. August 19th, 2014. The next few are also from this list, apparently I read basically nothing on it.

5. The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare. Same as above.

6. The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien. Same as above.

7. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Same as above. I hope to actually do this book this month though as I am going to an author talk for his latest book.

8. The Legend series by Marie Lu. Same as above.

9. The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson. August 26th, 2014.

10. Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor. Same as above.

There are of course many more from this year and all the years between now and then, but this isn’t a list every book on your TBR list. That would take a very long time.

Top Ten Tuesday – Spooky Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Spooky Reads

This weeks theme was actually a Halloween freebie. I both love and hate freebies. When I have an amazing idea for it its great but when my mind goes blank as to what to do it makes a hard list harder haha. So this week I am going to talk about the top 5 spooky books I have read, and the top 5 spooky books I want to read.

Top 5 Spooky Books I Have Read:

1. You by Caroline Kepnes. Being inside Joes head was truly a spooky experience.

2. The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. I don’t remember how scared I was while reading this book, but the end of it caused me so much emotional distress that I bawled my eyes out, never picked it or any of the rest of the books up again.

3. The Passage by Justin Cronin. While I don’t like zombies as genre, I did like this book and when I get over how angry the ending made me I do want to finish off the trilogy.

4. The Archived by Victoria Schwab. It took me a moment to get into it but I really enjoyed it. I didn’t realise it was considered a horror.

5. The Dogs by Allen Stratton. I think this is literally every single horror book I have ever read.

Top 5 Spooky Books I Want To Read:

1. The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes. Back in the day when I bought the book I read the first two pages and was instantly hooked but made myself put it down before I read anymore because at the time I didn’t have a moment to actually read it and I have never picked it back up. Hopefully sometime soon.

2. The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. I love the movies and really want to do the book. This is technically the second book but everyone knows what series I am talking about if I mention this one.

3. Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. I know nothing but it has been on my shelf longer than I can remember.

4. Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist. This has only been on my shelves for a few years I think but I still don’t really know anything about it. The blurb on the back has been enough for it to remain on my shelves even after some culling.

5. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. An oldie but I hear its amazing.

Be sure to share your lists! I haven’t really read that many spooky books so I would love some recommendations for Halloween reads.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Longest Books I’ve Read

This is both such an easy list and such a time consuming one! I have read many long books, but the time it took to go through the books I have read the last few years consumed a bit of time haha. These are the ones I can remember to the best of my ability, in order from longest to ‘shortest.’

Top Ten Tuesday – Authors I’d Love To Meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Authors I’d Love to Meet

I have been lucky enough to meet a few authors, but because I’m in Australia and most of the super popular authors are american there are still plenty of authors who have not made the journey to this land down under. These are just some of the authors I would love to meet and have sign a book or two.

1. Leslye Walton, author of The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender. I would love to ask for her inspiration for this book.

2. Eowyn Ivey, author of  The Snow Child. Again, I would love to know where the idea for such a beautiful book came from.

3. S.E Hinton, author of The Outsiders. I would love to ask what it was like to write a book at such a young age and have it be so popular.

4. Richelle Mead, author of Vampire Academy. I would ask what its like writing books set in a different universe other than VA, after being in it for so long.

5. Marissa Meyer, author of Cinder. I can’t even think of anything to ask her, I feel as though I would just be mute with fangirling.

6. Felicia Day, author of  You’re Never Weird On The Internet (Almost). I don’t want to know much about the book, but I would love to meet her and ask her a few things about the community she has created.

7. Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games. I would love to know her opinions on the movie adaptations, and her writing process.

8. Jean M. Auel, author of Clan of the Cave Bear. I would love to know how to researched and handled the progression of the story.

9. Sasha Alsberg, author of Zenith. While not my favourite book I really like her youtube and would love to meet her.

10. Caroline Kepnes, author of You. Just so I can ask her what on earth was happening haha.

Top Ten Tuesday – Unread Books by Favourite Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books By My Favourite Authors That I Still Haven’t Read

After feeling like I have had a few hard lists lately this one is a really easy one for me because there are so many books by favourite authors that I haven’t read because my follow through is really bad apparently hahaha. I think this will mostly be a list of series I have yet to finish.

1. Winter by Marissa Meyer. I love this series, and I did all the other books all in a row but this one had not come out yet so I didn’t pick it up and thusly I still haven’t read it.

2. War Storm by Victoria Aveyard. See above, but at least for this one it hasn’t been a huge amount of time and I still remember a lot of it.

3. A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas. I am actually a little worried about this one, that I wont enjoy it. But I’m not in a rush since I rereading ToG anyways.

4. Fate of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. I was so eager for this book when I finished the second one but had to wait AGES since I read the second book as an arc, and I still have yet to get it.

5. Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder. I own all her books because I loved the first two study books but still have yet to read anymore of them.

6. The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli. I was really surprised by just how much I loved Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda so I was eager to start one of her other works and it still sits waiting on my shelf.

7. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta. Many of you may know that Marchetta wrote my favourite book and I have read some of her other works which I have not enjoyed as much but I have heard amazing things about this one.

8. Heir to Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier. I want to reread the first three again before I continue on with the series but the first book is one of my all time favourites.

9. Midnight Jewel by Richelle Mead. I am actually considering just dropping this series. I didn’t mind the first but I did not love it the way I loved VA and found it had a lot of issues. If anyone can tell me that this one is better than the first I shall continue, but otherwise I will probably unhaul these two soon.

10. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. Little bit of a cheat for this one since I was reading it before I put it down to reread ToG, but I contemplating not picking it back up. Again, if anyone who didn’t like this book at first finished it and loved please let me know.

Top Ten Tuesday – On My Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books on my Fall Spring TBR

You will see a pattern for my list this week. I am planning on doing a huge reread over the next few weeks, and while I feel like its cheating to list books from the same series, I am not planning on reading much else right now.

1. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas.

2. Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas.

3. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas.

4. Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas.

5. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. There you go guys. I read Tower of Dawn the other day and I realised that I do not remember enough and need to reread pretty much everything before this final book comes out. I am so damn excited, but I don’t know what I will do once this series ends.

6. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. I am currently reading this book, but as it stands at pages 272/468 I am not enjoying it very much and I am probably going to put it down to do my rereads. I don’t know if I will continue on or not.

7. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I really want to finally do this one as Zusak is coming to Brisbane and I need to get my copes signed and I need to read them first haha.

8. Vigilante by Kady Cross. I had started this at one point and put it down. I need to pick it back up.

9. The Continent by Keira Drake. Another one I started but put down for some reason or another.

10. Sleepy Hollow and Other Short Stories by Washington Irving. A really short one to round it all off because there are some hefty books on this list.

Top Ten Tuesday – Hidden Gems

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books That Are Hidden Gems

Now when I say hidden gems, I mean I think they should be talked about more. If other people talk about them lots or they had lots of publicity, I obviously missed it because they ended up on this list.

1. On the Jellicoe Road By Melina Marchetta. Ding ding ding ding. I bet no one is surprised this is once again at the very top of my list. At this point even I am starting to get annoyed with myself with how often I bring up this book, but really how can I leave it off the list. I feel like I am a lone person just trying to advertise this book by running down the street screaming its name.

2. The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton. It was around when it first came out but it needs to be something I see everywhere for me to feel like it is getting the attention it deserves.

3. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. This week is apparently just a list of my most favourite books so far. I wonder if they are my favourites because I haven’t seen a whole bunch of people talk about them and I went in with no expectations? Ignore that thought and go read the books anyway haha.

4. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Again, I feel like I just need to run screaming its name down the street or keep screaming its name into the void in the hopes that

5. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. Thinking about the books I have seen in the bookish universe, I don’t remember seeing this one pop up very much and I loved it so much.

6. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. I know this is a big series by a big name author, but I never really see it mentioned anywhere so it gets a place on my list this week.

7. The Sentinel Mage by Emily Gee. An actual hidden gem haha. I don’t think I have seen this book mentioned anywhere at anytime. I got it from the publishers and that was it. The second book was even better than this one.

8. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Its won awards and stuff but I really don’t see it mentioned in any TTT’s or just in the bookish community in general, so I shall mention it.

9. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. As more time passes I feel like this book fades into the background and it needs to be pushed back to the front of the lime light.

10. The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Ok guys hear me out. Yes it got good publicity but I feel like a lot of people snubbed it because it was by Stephanie Meyer and they thought it was going to be like Twilight. Guys this book is much better. I reread it basically yearly.

Top Ten Tuesday – Binge Worthy Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Binge Worthy Shows

I am not so interested in writing my own list this week, as I am in seeing everyone elses lists. I don’t think I have done a list like this before with everyone else, so I am really interested in seeing if the people I know have similar book tastes have similar TV show taste as well! This list is in no particular order, and I am going to try and limit it to things that have just come out or are coming out soon.

1. Disenchantment on Netflix. I have completed all of this already and I enjoyed it. I don’t think it has reached its full potential yet, but I can see great things to come. If you like a darker Simpsons/Futurama then you will like this.

2. The Good Place on Netflix. About a girl who was supposed to go to hell or the bad place but ends up in the good place and chaos ensues. I wont say more, but this is just an awesome show. I can’t wait for the next season.

3. The 100. The show can be really messed but, and the latest season wasn’t the best, but god I love it. Its not one you want to do one episode at a time.

4. Game of Thrones. Yes, I know this didn’t come out this year and I don’t get more till next year, but I feel robbed by this skipped year and I hate it! I can’t wait to see how they end the series.

5. Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia. This is my households ‘family’ show. Myself, my partner, and our two housemates all get together on its release days and watch it. Safe to say we really enjoy it.

6. Shameless (US). Not to be mistaken with the UK one, which I cannot stand. I may be a season behind on this show (maybe) but when I watch it I fly through it.

7. Criminal Minds. Again I may be behind, but once I have a good amount of the show to watch I just sit and watch it until there is no more. I have watched the whole series more than once.

8. Modern Family. A nice more light-hearted show to watch between all the serious. Its one of my favourite break moments when it comes out.

9. South Park. For those who like that kind of thing, it can have some really funny moments.

10. Iron Fist on Netflix. I don’t know if I would binge watch this, but its the only other thing coming out that I like to sit back and watch.
